David Rees

David spent almost 50 years working within the European downstream petroleum industry. In 1992, he co-founded Greenergy, which would become the largest distributor of fuels in the UK and one of the world’s largest manufacturers of biofuels from waste.

In 2013 David’s wife, Eva, was diagnosed with Stage 4 malignant melanoma. This was prior to the advent of immunotherapy and owing to an unusual genetic mutation there was no treatment available to her.

David became driven by the idea that treatments for cancer and other illnesses could be augmented and improved by capitalising on the rapidly evolving science of the Microbiome.

In 2015 he founded the Seerave Foundation with an endowment of the founding shares in Greenergy. Seerave’s mission is to act as a catalyst between institutions across borders and disciplines and accelerate research into the relationship between the human immune system, cancer and dysbiosis in the Microbiome.

Today, the philanthropic foundation is led by a highly motivated, interdisciplinary team of PhD level scientists, with a diverse set of skills and experiences.

In 2023, enthused by the similarities in Cancer Platform’s vision, the Seerave Foundation entered into a partnership that would see collaboration on the platform’s development and vision to personalise every individual’s cancer journey and treatment. David also proudly became a Founder of Cancer Awareness Trust.
